S&P 500 is a stock market index which is used by the US stock market. The index includes the top 500 companies which do trade in the USA.

Companies in S&P 500 are mostly weighted through their overall market size and large companies make up most of the index. The top 10 S&P 500 companies make up 30% of the total index.

Top 10 Companies Listed in the S&P 500

1- Microsoft(MSFT)

Microsoft(MSFT)

Microsoft(MSFT) joined S&P 500 in 1994. Right now, it has an index weight of 6.96% and total market cap of $3.08 trillion.

2- Apple(AAPL)

Joining S&P 500 in 1982, Apple(AAPL) became the first modern US company to reach $1 trillion in 2018. With an index weight of 6.30%, Apple has a market cap of $2.79 trillion.

3- Nvidia Corp.(NVDA)

Nvidia(NVDA) has an index weight of 6.11% at S&P 500 with a $2.71 trillion market cap. It became a part of S&P 500 in 2001. 

4- Amazon(AMZN)

The ecommerce retailer, Amazon(AMZN) joined the S&P 500 in 2005 after becoming public in 1997. It has a market cap of $1.61 trillion with an index weight of 3.64%. 

5- Meta(META)

Recently, Meta has launched its immersive 3D experience called MetaVerse. First, Meta’s Facebook was included in the S&P 500 list in 2013, but Meta(META) replaced Facebook and joined the S&P 500 in 2021.

6- Alphabet(GOOGL)

Alphabet(GOOGL), Google’s parent company, has an index weight of 2.29% in S&P 500. Joining the list in 2006, Alphabet now shares a market cap of $1.02 trillion.

7- Berkshire Hathaway(BRK.B)

The multinational conglomerate holding company, Berkshire Hathaway(BRK.B), is also included in the top 10 companies that make up the S&P 500. Its market cap is $754 billion with a 1.70% index score.

8- JP Morgan Chase and Co.(JPM)

JP Morgan Chase and Co.(JPM)

JP Morgan and Chase(JPM) is one of the largest financial companies in the world. It shares a market cap of $585.8 billion with an index weight of 1.32% in the S&P 500. 

9- Exxon Mobil Corporation(XOM)

With a market share of 1.12%, the American multinational oil and gas corporation is also in the top 10 list of S&P 500 companies. Exxon Mobil Corporation(XOM) has a market cap of $516.42 billion.

10- Johnson & Johnson(JNJ)

The multinational pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical technology corporation, Johnson & Johnson(JNJ) is also added to the S&P 500 list. With an index weight of 0.94, its market cap is $351.76.
